Driven by Intel® QuickAssist Technology, NetLogic Microsystems’ NETL7™ knowledge-based processors accelerate complex content processing and deep-packet inspection on Intel® Xeon®, Intel® Atom™ and Intel® EP80579 Integrated Processor families for security appliances spanning 250Mbps to 10Gbps performance range

Intel Developer Forum Fall 2008

Mountain View, Calif. – Aug. 19, 2008 – NetLogic Microsystems, Inc. [NASDAQ: NETL], the leader in the design and development of knowledge-based processors and high-speed integrated circuits, today announced it is showcasing its NETL7™ knowledge-based processors at the Intel Developer Forum 2008, Booth # 137, from Aug. 19 to Aug. 21, 2008 at the Moscone Center West in San Francisco, Calif.  NetLogic Microsystems is demonstrating multiple reference platforms of UTM (unified threat management) security appliances, ranging from cost-sensitive solutions targeted at small-and-midsize businesses to high-performance enterprise and carrier-class solutions.

NetLogic Microsystems is driving market-leading performance, functionality and scalability for next-generation security appliances, embedded networking and mobile wireless infrastructure equipment that require intelligent application-aware processing capabilities at high throughputs and low power.  On the high-end, NetLogic Microsystems is demonstrating its best-in-class NLS1005 knowledge-based processor, a member of its NETL7 processor family, with Intel’s Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® processors to deliver unparalleled performance density and energy efficiency for systems targeted at performance of 10Gbps and above.  In addition, NetLogic Microsystems is also demonstrating its NLS055 and NLS205 single-chip knowledge-based processors with integrated on-chip memory on the Intel® Atom and the Intel® EP80579 Integrated Processor, respectively, with Intel® QuickAssist Technology platforms targeted at ultra low power and cost-sensitive applications.  The NLS1005, NLS205 and NLS055 processors from NetLogic Microsystems feature massively parallel processing capabilities to accelerate compute-intensive and memory-bandwidth-intensive functions such as application-aware networking, deep-packet inspection and regular expression processing.  NetLogic Microsystems’ NETL7 knowledge-based processors seamlessly connect to the Intel Xeon, Intel Atom and Intel EP80579 processors over an industry-standard PCI-Express® interface.

With multiple Intel® architecture-based platforms that target different performance, power and price points, NetLogic Microsystems is delivering solutions that offer customers enhanced scalability by preserving a common and consistent software environment across multiple platforms.  In addition, customers benefit from the ability to inspect every bit of data, voice and video traffic traversing through the network at wire speeds without compromising inspection coverage.

“We are excited to be part of the Intel® QuickAssist Technology Community to deliver multiple reference platforms that include our market-leading NETL7 knowledge-based processors and the Intel architecture (IA) processors,” said Chris O’Reilly, vice president of marketing at NetLogic Microsystems.  “Our customers can benefit from the significant performance improvement that our NETL7 processors provide while minimizing power consumption and leveraging the broad industry adoption of, and infrastructure for, IA systems.”

“Intel QuickAssist Technology on NetLogic Microsystems’ products benefits OEM customers to service new markets and utilize Intel processors, from our high-end multi-core Intel Xeon processors to our power-efficient Intel Atom processors,” said Steve Price, marketing director, Intel Performance Products Division.  “As we’re demonstrating at the Intel Developer Forum this week, Intel QuickAssist Technology enables accelerators such as NetLogic Microsystems’ NETL7 processors to offload packet inspection functions while maintaining full compatibility to existing IA systems.”

NetLogic Microsystems announced its support for Intel QuickAssist Technology, including the Intel QuickAssist API initiative.  NetLogic Microsystems supports the broad market accelerator attach strategy of Intel using PCI-Express® and I/O technologies that are available today and in the future.  This advanced coupling between the CPU and accelerators delivers higher bandwidths, lower latency, reduced power consumption and minimized transaction overheads for acceleration devices.
