MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., -- January 26, 2004 -- NetLogic Microsystems, Inc., the leader in packet classification and forwarding solutions for networking and communications, today announced shipments of its second generation monolithic network search engine (NSE), with dual QDRII ports, to top tier equipment manufacturers. With the ability to operate up to 250 MHz, the high-performance 18Mb NSE5512GLQ network search engine can support up to 512K IPv4 and up to128K IPv6 routing entries per device. The device seamlessly interfaces to network processors that follow the industry-standard Network Processing Forum LA-1 specification, including Intels IXP2400, IXP2800, IXP2850, and next-generation network processors from AMCC. NetLogic is committed to working very closely with customers and leading network processor vendors to meet the increasing demand of performance and functionality for glue-less devices, said Martyn Humphries, vice president of NetLogic Microsystems. We continue to demonstrate our leadership by being the only supplier to ship second generation dual-port architecture to top tier manufacturers. This underscores NetLogics position as the search engine technology leader with the ability to continually deliver field-proven devices that advance the networking and communications industry. Silicon availability of the dual QDRII SRAM port NSE5512GLQ device enables top tier equipment manufacturers to lower costs and accelerate product development. With its high level of integration, the second generation NSE5512GLQ device eliminates the glue-logic required for interfacing multiple network processors (NPUs), general-purpose host control plane processor (CPU) and Associated Data SRAM, and occupies minimal board space, significantly reducing cost and power consumption. The device has the ability to handle dual-search operations per clock cycle, which saves QDR bandwidth and increases overall throughput. It also eliminates the need to replicate commonality between look-up address tables, thus reducing product development time for manufacturers. NetLogic Microsystems' industry-leading search engine provides the density and performance required for next generation equipment, including multi-service switches, wireless infrastructure, enterprise, and edge routers. As the demand for high bandwidth Gigabit Ethernet grows in volume across the enterprise, the high-performance NSE5512GLQ is extensively being designed in applications to offload functions such as IPv4 and IPv6 packet forwarding and classification. The product is also ideal for networking applications that require robust packet classification and traffic management such as Layer 4-7 applications, firewall, intrusion detection (IDS), load balancing, broadband access, and access control list (ACL). Additionally, the device is depth cascadable without search latency penalty to accommodate database expansion. It offers protection against parity errors with an I/O and database parity feature. The NSE5512GLQ is also footprint-compatible to the previous generation NSE4000GLQ family, allowing easy upgrades to legacy systems. A comprehensive software and hardware development environment is also available for the new device. NetLogics software development kit (SDK) includes, control plane software drivers, an API, data plane macros for the NPU, sample code, bring-up utilities, and a fully integrated Foreign Object Model for simulation with Intels simulation environment. The hardware development kit (HDK) includes an evaluation card and reference schematics. The evaluation card is designed to plug directly into the Intel Angel Island and Aleutian Island development platforms.
